With the Echo Show 8, Amazon has introduced a smart display with Alexa, which is located between the already available Echo Show 5 and the Echo Show with 10-inch display. With Echo Flex, on the other hand, Alexa comes into the power socket to make it available at low cost in every room.
The Echo Show 8 relies on an 8 inch “HD display“, With a resolution of 1,280 × 800 pixels. The loudspeaker with display continues the design line that Amazon has introduced with the Echo Show (test) and Echo Show 5 (test), in which the display dominates the front and a fabric cover the case. The resolution of the display corresponds to that of the Echo Show with 10-inch display, which makes the pixel density higher. As with the other two echo-show devices, Echo Show can also play 8 videos from Amazon Prime Video and use the Silk and Firefox browsers. These can also be used by YouTube, albeit with restrictions.
As with the other Echo Show, the 8-inch model also features a built-in 1 MP camera for video calls or home-style viewing. Again, this can be disabled, but also with a built-in cover to be covered to prevent any recordings, if you want to be undisturbed.
The Echo Show 8 measures 200.4 × 135.9 × 99.1 mm (W × H × D) at 1037 grams, sits on four microphones and offers next to the camera cover on the top again buttons for the volume and for deactivating the camera and the microphone. At the back, a 3.5 mm audio output is installed next to the power connector. Wi-Fi is supported on 802.11a / b / g / n / ac, and two 52mm neodymium speakers with a passive bass radiator provide the sound. As a processor Amazon uses the MediaTek MT8163.
The Echo Show 8 can already be pre-ordered for 129.99 euros *. However, delivery will start on 21st November. It is available in the colors sandstone and anthracite.
Echo Flex puts Alexa in the socket
The Echo Flex is a small Alexa speaker plugged into the wall outlet and the most affordable entry into the Alexa ecosystem. It costs only 29.99 euros and can also be pre-ordered now *. The delivery in Germany starts on November 14th. With Echo Flex, Amazon wants to bring Alexa to any room or hallway where a speaker like the Echo Dot is not so easy to set up. The loudspeaker of the Echo Flex is therefore designed especially for the voice of Alexa to answer the user's requests.
An integrated USB-A port can charge other devices such as smartphones up to 7.5 watts. A button on the Echo Flex allows disabling the microphones. A small LED will light blue or red to indicate the status of Alexa. Via optional accessories, the Echo Flex can be extended via this USB connection on the underside – for example with a controllable night light or a motion detector. The Echo Flex also has a 3.5 mm audio output on the side. The Echo Flex supports 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac Wi-Fi at 2.4 and 5 GHz.
