A few hours before the announcement of the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus Samsung has introduced the corresponding system-on-a-chip Exynos 9825. The successor to the Galaxy S10 series built-in Exynos 9820 changes in production from 8 nm to 7 nm EUV. The performance should have adjusted Samsung only minimal.
The Exynos 9825 is Samsung's first chip from its own 7 nm production using EUV lithography. The EUV exposure is used for some layers of the chip, but not yet the full SoC and thus represents an intermediate stage after the classical immersion lithography. Due to the new manufacturing process is to be expected with a reduced Die size, in the Samsung with 127 mm² from the 8nm production of the Exynos 9820 compared to TSMC's 7nm process of the Snapdragon 855 (Plus) had so far failed. In addition, an improvement in energy efficiency is to be expected, although Samsung was only presented with comparative values to the old 10LPE process at the start of the 7 nm production last October.
CPU design is identical
The switch to a new manufacturing process is the only major change from Exynos 9820 to Exynos 9825, according to the information available. According to the chip's specifications, the CPU continues to consist of two proprietary Exynos M4 cores, two ARM Cortex-A75s and four ARMs Cortex-A55 together, where the clock rates are not mentioned. So far, a maximum of 2.73 GHz, 2.31 GHz and 1.95 GHz have been available, Anandtech suspected that the Cortex-A75 can now go up to 2.4 GHz. The bottom line, but only for a small performance increase.
UFS 3.0 could be used this time
The graphics unit is also the same with the ARM Mali-G76 MP12, the same applies to areas such as memory support, the Image Signal Processor, the NPU, or the connectivity. UFS 3.0 is already supported by the Exynos 9820, should be after the Galaxy Fold with the Galaxy Note 10 but now in a smartphone for the masses to use after the OnePlus 7 (test) has submitted in this point.
