Motorola has presented a new edition of the Motorola Razr, as expected, with the inside of the horizontal flip phone set on a flexible display. Even the previously leaked design is true and continues the homage to the classic.
The new Motorola Razr is made of stainless steel and curved gorilla glass on the outside. The folding hinge is designed in such a way that both halves of the display lie on top of each other inside and only a curvature arises at the hinge. The display should be better protected from dust and dirt, it remains to be seen whether it is not rubbed by it quickly and impressions arise. The housing of the Motorola Razr is protected against splash water, which is to be achieved by a special water-repellent nano-coating.
6.2-inch OLED display in 21: 9 format
The flexible pOLED display is 6.2 inches tall, offers 2,142 × 876 pixels (373 ppi) and is designed in 21: 9 aspect ratio. On the outside, a 2.7-inch touch screen is installed to view notifications without having to open the smartphone. Again, Motorola relies on OLED, but a 4: 3 format with a resolution of 600 × 800 pixels (370 ppi). Some features, such as calling, replying to messages, controlling music, using the Assistant, and taking selfies can all be used when folded.
On and off with one hand
In the unfolded state, calls can be stopped by folding the smartphone, just like the original Razr. As with the original, the smartphone snaps full. Like the classic, the new edition can also be opened with just one hand. But by a sweeping movement of the wrist it does not work anymore with the new model.
Snapdragon 710, 128 GB, USB C and 205 grams
The SoC features a Snapdragon 710 with eight cores – distributed across a 2- and 6-core cluster – and up to 2.2 GHz. From the performance of current flagship ships with Snapdragon 855, the Razr is thus clearly removed. The internal memory is 128 gigabytes, the memory 6 gigabytes in size. Motorola promises to refrain from adjustments in the Android 9 used. The battery comes to 2,510 mAh and can be charged with up to 15 watts via the USB-C port. The dimensions of the new Motorola Razr are folded at 72 × 94 × 14 mm and unfolded at 72 × 172 × 6.9 mm. The weight is 205 g. The fingerprint sensor is placed in the bead in the lower part of the smartphone.
The main camera offers 16 megapixels with a f / 1.7 lens and 1.22 μm pixels. It does not offer an optical image stabilizer, but a dual LED flash. The front camera has 5 megapixels, an f / 2.0 lens and 1.12 micron pixels. As flash, the display must serve here.
For connectivity, the Motorola Razr WLAN supports 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac at 2.4 and 5 GHz, LTE, UMTS and GSM, as well as NFC and Bluetooth 5.0. For the SIM card, it relies on an eSIM. The location services are A-GPS, LTEPP, SUPL and GLONASS.
Start in Germany in the first half of 2020
The Motorola Razr will launch in December in selected markets in Europe. In Germany, however, it will appear only in the first half of 2020. The color is black only. Motorola has not yet mentioned a price for Europe, but in the US in early 2020 it will, as expected, come on the market for 1,500 US dollars.
As a little Easter egg, Motorola has hid a design that revives the design of the first model on the display of the new Motorola Razr.
Oh one last Razr thing: Motorola added a secret “Retro Razr” mode!
It is basically a skinned Android launcher and it is nostalgic as bright in the best way possible. https://t.co/jYam4Cc0uS pic.twitter.com/XFS00gwwK2
