At the IFA 2019 AVM presents the Fritz! Box 6850 5G, the world's first “all-in-one router” for the new 5G mobile communications standard. In addition to 5G bands in the sub-6 GHz spectrum, the router supports LTE with all popular European bands and UMTS. The market launch is planned for the first quarter of 2020.

5G router with 4 × 4 MIMO and Qualcomm chipset

The heart of the new AVM Fritz! Box 6850 5G is the Snapdragon X55 from Qualcomm. The chip connects with 5G, LTE, 3G and 2G for the first time all current mobile radio standards in a manufactured in 7 nm modem.

In 5G operation, the Snapdragon X55 is designed for speeds up to 7 Gbps down and up to 3 Gbps uplink, and supports all 5G bands in the sub 6 GHz range and those over mmWave be used. It also supports LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28 and 32, as well as UMTS (3G), which are common in Europe.

The multi-mode modem also supplies the new Fritz! Box 6850 5G with the necessary support for the multi-antenna technology 4 × 4 MIMO, which can almost double the data speed in mobile networks under ideal conditions. In this context, AVM also highlights the alignment aid of the Fritz! Box 6850 5G, with which the optimal location and the best orientation of the mobile radio antennas should be determined.
