In order to be better positioned for the Indian smartphone market, Samsung has presented with the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 two inexpensive, yet well-equipped smartphones. The prices start at the equivalent of just under 100 euros for the Galaxy M10 and stop at around 160 euros for the Galaxy M20 with 64 GB of memory.
The so-called Infinity V display is celebrating its premiere in both new smartphones. First announced at the November 2018 Developers' Conference, the display features a V-shaped Notch, in which Samsung houses the front camera, earpiece, and sensors. The Galaxy M10 offers 1,480 × 720 pixels at 6.22 inches, the Galaxy M20 slightly larger 6.3 inches at 2,340 × 1,080 pixels.
Samsung wants to meet the requirements of Indian millennials to today's smartphones with the new Galaxy M series. According to Asim Warsi, Senior Vice President, Samsung India, this group of users requires a particularly fast smartphone with long battery life and the latest innovations. Samsung's biggest competitor in India is currently Xiaomi.
Fresh Exynos 7904 in the Galaxy M20
In terms of speed, Samsung relies on its own system-on-a-chips from the Exynos series. The Galaxy M10 comes with Exynos 7870 a slightly older Octa Core SoC based on the Cortex-A53 used. The Galaxy M20, however, is equipped with the only a few days young Exynos 7904, which also offers a total of eight cores, of which, however, two are based on the fast Cortex-A73. Both SoCs are manufactured in 14 nm.
How much RAM and memory are in the smartphone, depends on the chosen variant. The Galaxy M10 with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage costs just under 100 euros, with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, the price rises to 110 euros. For the Galaxy M20 with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of memory Samsung calls 135 euros, with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of memory is 160 euros. A memory extension via microSD card and the use of two SIM cards is possible for both models.
5,000 mAh for 135 euros
Apart from display and processor, there are different batteries. The Galaxy M10 comes to 3,400 mAh, but the Galaxy M20 offers just 5,000 mAh. Only the more expensive of the two smartphones also offers a quick charge function.
There are hardly any differences in the cameras. Here, the Galaxy M10 and M20 have a dual-camera design on the back, consisting of a main camera with 13 megapixels and f / 1.9 aperture and a wide-angle camera with 120 degrees field of vision, f / 2.2 aperture and 5 megapixels. The V-Notch uses a 5-megapixel camera with f / 2.2 aperture in the Galaxy M10, while the Galaxy M20 has 8 megapixels.
Samsung wants to offer the smartphones from 5 February on the Indian Amazon and on its own website. Together with the Indian mobile communications provider Jio, special tariffs with double the volume of data are planned in its LTE network.
