ROG Phone II: Asus setzt auf Snapdragon 855 Plus, 120 Hz und 6.000 mAh

Asus has introduced the second generation of the gaming smartphone ROG Phone. The ROG Phone II, which will initially be offered exclusively in China, is larger, has a faster display, Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 855 Plus and a battery with 6,000 mAh. Asus again offers extensive gaming accessories for the smartphone.

The ROG Phone II is to be offered from the end of the week at a previously unknown price in China and there exclusively until the beginning of September, before the European premiere is scheduled for 4 September at the IFA in Berlin. Asus' first ROG Phone (test) had a recommended retail price of 899 euros, the new generation will probably be in a similar, if not higher price range.

New display with 120 Hz and 49 ms touch latency

For customer feedback, Asus has scaled the display from 6 inches to 6.59 inches for the ROG Phone II, leaving the resolution at 1080p. The fingerprint sensor is in the display. More important than diagonal or resolution are, according to Asus, however, the improvements in refresh rate and touch latency. The OLED display operates at up to 120 Hz instead of 90 Hz and is said to have the lowest touch latency of all currently available smartphones at 49 milliseconds. The next best smartphone is the iPhone Xs Max with 75 ms, followed by the OnePlus 7 Pro (test) with 85 ms and the Samsung Galaxy S10 + (test) with 87 ms.

Snapdragon 855 Plus with UFS 3.0

To provide the pixels with correspondingly fast rendered frames, Asus installed Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 855 Plus, which offers a higher clock speed of up to 2.96 GHz on the Octa Core CPU's core and a 15% higher GPU Clock for the Adreno 640 offers. A large-scale passive cooling to prevent throttling, but still offers Asus again an optional fan for plugging. The smartphone also comes with 12GB of LPDDR4X and 512GB of UFS 3.0, just like the OnePlus 7 Pro, setting new flash memory speed records for mobile devices.

For long gaming sessions, a battery with 6,000 mAh to provide, which can be charged via a side USB Type-C port, so that the smartphone can be operated in cross-position while playing better. Asus supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4.0, which can charge two-thirds of the battery in less than an hour. After exactly 81 minutes, a complete charge should be completed.

Extensive gaming accessories

The ROG Phone II features a classic headphone jack and two vibration motors for haptic feedback while playing. In the field of gaming also falls the extensive accessories. Asus offers again a desktop dock, there is also a wireless WiGig dock, which uses the integrated Wi-Fi ad of the smartphone. The Twin View Dock II extends the smartphone with a second display for additional overlays in games as well as an additional battery with 5,000 mAh. Two controllers can also be attached to the left and right sides of the smartphone.
