With the Galaxy A90 5G brings Samsung the new mobile standard in the upper class and also relies partly on flagship hardware. The SoC and the 48 MP triple camera, as well as the large AMOLED display stand out. In terms of biometrics, Samsung is also breaking new ground in the luxury segment.
5G standard and Snapdragon 855 for the upper class
Even apart from its top model Galaxy S10 (test), which is also available in a 5G version, Samsung wants to offer in the future even in the slightly cheaper upper class 5G smartphones and therefore introduces the Galaxy A90 5G. The new wireless standard is implemented using the same Snapdragon X50 5G modem from Qualcomm, which is also used in the American version of the S10 5G. In the German version, however, Samsung uses its own Exynos 5100 modem.
Also not typical for the upper class is the use of the Snapdragon 855 platform, which was previously reserved only for absolute flagships such as the OnePlus 7 Pro (test) or the US version of the Samsung Galaxy S10 (+). The Snapdragon 855 has a prime core, allowing one of the Cryo 485 cores (ARM Cortex-A76) to clock up to 2.84 GHz. Three more cryo 485 cores clock again with up to 2.42 GHz. The four performance cores are also joined by four efficiency cores of the same type clocking at up to 1.8 GHz. The graphics acceleration is handled by an Adreno 640.
48 MP triple camera with AI support
Samsung has also put special emphasis on the camera of the A90 G5, which is equipped with a 48-megapixel sensor, an F / 2.0 aperture and AI support. The main camera also receives support from a 123-degree ultra-wide-angle lens (F / 2.2) with a resolution of 8 megapixels, while a 5-megapixel depth sensor (F / 2.2) completes the triple setup.
The 6.7-inch “Super-AMOLED” Infinity-U display resolves to 1,080 × 2,400 pixels and is only interrupted by a small notch in which the 32-megapixel front camera with F / 2.0 aperture is located. Samsung integrates the fingerprint sensor directly into the display.
Up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash memory
The memory is also generously sized for a luxury-class smartphone. The A90 5G comes in two variants with 6 GB or 8 GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory. The 6 GB version can also be expanded by microSD by a further 512 GB of storage space.
Samsung gives the A90 5G a 4.500 mAh large battery, which should be super fast charge and 25 watts to charge quickly.
Availability and prices
According to Samsung, the Galaxy A90 5G will be available in black and white in Korea from 4 September, with more markets to follow. So far, the company has not commented on the expected prices.
