At the IFA 2019 in Berlin LG wants to introduce two new smartphones with the K50S and K40S and bring features of the upper class in the form of G and V series in the middle class. In particular, the K series is to be upgraded with new cameras and offer displays that are more typical for premium smartphones.
These upgraded K series models are equipped with improved cameras, better displays and larger batteries among other enhancements for a more premium multimedia experience without the premium price.
LG press release
Tripple camera with super wide angle
As in the comeback attempt with the G8s, LG also installed three lenses on the K50S main, super wide-angle and depth camera. While the main camera is equipped with a 13-megapixel sensor and autofocus, the super wide-angle comes to 5 megapixels, while the depth sensor with 2 megapixels must be satisfied. This ensures a clearer separation between the subject and the background, according to LG, to achieve a more realistic depth of field.
Like LG's flagship G and V series, LG K50S sports three rear cameras: 13MP with PDAF, 5MP Super Wide Angle, and 2MP lens with Depth Sensor.
LG about the LG K50S
The K40S relies on a dual camera consisting of a main sensor with 13 megapixels and autofocus and a super wide angle with 5 megapixels. A third lens with depth sensor is not used in the smaller model of the K-series.
Both smartphones are the first models of the K series with super wide-angle and are therefore particularly suitable for large group photos and landscapes, so LG. The front cameras of the K50S and K40S also each have a 13-megapixel sensor. Further details on the focal lengths and sizes of the sensors and lenses revealed LG but not yet.
Large displays with narrow case changes
LG puts on both K-Series smartphones on large displays – 6.1 inches in the K40S and 6.5 inches in the K50S. The manufacturer speaks in both cases of a FullVision display with HD + resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9.
With minimal bezels punctuated only by a small notch, both smartphones offer a modern design and are well suited for media consumption and mobile gaming. This result is to be supported by the certified DTS X 3D Surround Sound.
Octa-core SoC, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB memory
The two mid-range devices have a still unknown Octa-core processor, which will come from Qualcomm due to the latest license agreement, maximum 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM. The internal memory can be expanded via microSD. The battery capacity is 3,500 mAh (LG K40S) respectively 4,000 mAh (LG K50S).
The new K-Series will be available in Europe, Latin America and Asia from October in two colors, New Aurora Black and New Moroccan Blue, and will ship with Android 9 Pie. No information is available on the EIA at the present time.
Recently, LG's new releases were not crowned with success, also because they were often available in Europe only months after the announcement and the competition then offered better terminals for lower prices.
