Amusement park in the vastness of the universe
After about 18 years, the development strategy game Startopia receives a successor, which is developed by Realmforge in Munich. The latter were recently known through the Dungeons series and adopt some elements of the genre in Spacebase Startopia, although the setting is completely different. In the game putting on the Unity engine, the player directs the fortunes of an abandoned space amusement park found. It is on the one hand to attract the visitors of various alien races and entertain well, on the other hand, but also to defend the space station from unwanted intruders.
The ring-shaped station consists of three levels, each of which offers ten sectors. The lowest and highest levels are maintenance, life support and industry, while the middle level is home to amusement facilities. In the meantime, the upper deck shines with extraterrestrial flora and fauna, which on the one hand offers resources and on the other offers a habitat for nature-friendly Aliens.
The player starts with only one sector of each deck. Places that can be placed and new sectors must then be purchased with energy. The former range from medical supply rooms – in which waiting chairs, treatment stations and automatic medication dispensers can be freely placed – to alien washing systems and lootbox generators, where visitors can win random hats for a small fee.
Real-time strategy and multiplayer mode
Later in the game, the gameplay will also be enhanced with real-time strategy elements, such as housing unexploded sectors of hostile creatures or stalking Spacebase's space pirates. There are also skirmishes with competing parties.
