The smart radiator thermostats from Netatmo now have a window-open detection, which ensures that the radiators are automatically closed when the window is open. Not only new devices benefit from the function, but also existing customers again with a software update.
The thermostats react to the temperature drop caused by opening the window. If the radiator and the thermostat are too far from the window and the temperature does not fall sufficiently, it will not respond accordingly. An icon displayed on the thermostat shows the user that an open window has been detected. The heating is switched on again if the closing of the window is recognized by a rise in temperature or 30 minutes have passed.
Switching off the heating when the window is open can also be deactivated by the user. Either in individual cases by explicitly selecting in the app that heating should continue, or as a flat rate for all thermostats.
Netatmo has delivered functions to everyone more than once
Netatmo presented the smart radiator thermostats at IFA 2016 as a supplement to the wall thermostat. In the past, the manufacturer has also provided functions to existing customers with software updates. For example, for over a year, Netatmo had installed the hardware chip that was then still required for the Apple HomeKit in the device in the wall thermostat in order to activate this function for all customers when the software was completed. At IFA 2017, Netatmo then announced a HomeKit update for the Presence and Welcome security cameras – again for existing customers.
Tado has recognized open windows for a long time
Competitor Tado has been offering this kind of window-open detection for some time. It causes the radiator valve to remain closed and closed for a certain period of time, so that at best the heating does not try to absorb the sudden drop in temperature immediately after the window is closed, but only after the temperature in the room has adjusted again somewhat ,
At CES 2020, Netatmo presented a smart offline door lock with NFC keys, which is expected to be launched this year.
