The fact that the Redmi Note 8 Pro would be the first quad-camera smartphone with 64-MP sensor has long been no secret. Today, Xiaomi has officially unveiled the new flagship of its sub-brand and its regular version. The Redmi Note 8 Pro will also be released in two World of Warcraft editions.

Note 8 Pro: flagship with the world's first 64 MP quad camera

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is the world's first smartphone to use a 64-megapixel Isocell GW1 CMOS sensor from Samsung. Like the 48 MP CMOS sensor in the smaller Note 8, it supports pixel binning, where four pixels form the basis for a pixel, capturing more light.

The 64 megapixel main camera with dual LED flash is accompanied by an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle sensor, a 2 megapixel macro camera and a 2 megapixel depth sensor. Slow motion shots at up to 960 frames per second and UHD videos at 30 frames per second, as well as HDR and panoramic shots are also possible. The 20 MP front camera allows full HD video recording at 30 frames per second.

For the new flagship of the Note series, Xiaomi waives an OLED display and instead relies on a 6.53-inch LCD panel with 2,340 × 1,080 pixels in the format of 19.5: 9. The smartphone is protected with Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back. The fingerprint sensor to unlock the smartphone is located on the back.

MediaTek Helio G90T, maximum 8 GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory

With the Helio G90T Xiaomi relies on a SoC from MediaTek. The 12 nm module has six Cortex-A55 and two Cortex-A76 cores with a clock frequency of up to 2.27 GHz. As a graphics unit, a Mali G76 GPU is used. Furthermore, there are optional 6 or 8 GB of RAM in the equipment list, which is combined with 64 or 128 GB flash memory according to the UFS 2.1 standard.

A total of four WLAN antennas provide the Redmi Note 8 Pro with WLAN a / b / g / n / ac, and the smartphone also supports NFC.

4.500mAh with fast charging, USB-C and 3.5mm jack

The battery is generously sized with a capacity of 4,500 mAh and can be charged via USB-C with up to 18 watts thanks to the quick-charge technology. Also offered is a 3.5 mm jack connection.

Xiaomi also launches the smartphone in two special WoW editions “Alliance” and “Horde”, paying tribute to his partnering with Blizzard. Both companies want to cooperate more in the future. For the time being, however, the WoW editions are only intended for China.

Grade 8: 48 MP quad camera with isocell sensor

The camera squad of the smaller Redmi Note 8 has a total of four sensors. The main camera has Samsung's new GM2 ISOCELL sensor with 48 megapixels, which is due to capture with its F / 1.8 aperture particularly high light. Furthermore, the smartphone has an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, the Redmi Note 8 houses a 13-megapixel camera.

Underneath the notch is a 6.39-inch 19.5: 9 LCD screen that resolves contents of 2,340 × 1,080 pixels. The fingerprint sensor can still be found on the back of the smartphone.

Snapdragon 665, maximum 6 GB RAM and up to 128 GB Flash

At the heart of the Redmi Note 8 is an Octacore Snapdragon 665 SoC, which has a total of eight Qualcomm Kryo 260 cores up to 2GHz. Four cores are designed for power and four more for energy efficiency. The processor receives support from the new Adreno 610 graphics unit. The Snapdragon 665 also includes a LTE modem (Cat 12) for up to 600 Mbps down and 150 Mbps upstream, as well as support for Bluetooth 5.0 LE and dual-band ac WLAN.

The memory is either four or eight gigabytes in size and is combined with 64 or 128 GB of flash memory. The battery of the smaller of the two Note-8 models with a capacity of 4,000 mAh is relatively generously dimensioned and can be charged thanks to Quick Charge technology via USB 2.0 Type-C with up to 18 watts.

Prices and availability

The Redmi Note 8 Pro should be available for purchase from 17 September at prices starting at 175 euros with six GB RAM and 64 GB flash memory. For 8 GB RAM and 128 GB Flash calls Xiaomi converted 225 euros. The Redmi Note 8 is offered with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory in China from as little as 126 euros. For the variants with the combination 6GB and 64GB as well as 6GB and 128GB become 151 respectively 176 euro due. From when the two new models of the Note series in Europe will be available, Xiaomi has not yet announced.
