Russia's search engine giant Yandex launched a short video app on Monday with a focus on fashion and style. Yandex plans to rival China-based TikTok with this application called Sloy.
Sloy, which means layer in Russian, has taken its place in the App Store yesterday, but for now it is only available to users in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Yandex plans to launch the application on the Android platform in 2020, Sloy'u next year will open to users in Europe and the United States said.
With more than 500 million users per month, TikTok will face a strong rival from the east for the first time. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the competing practices of strong companies in the silicon valley have not yet challenged TikTok's strength.
Let us remind you that in addition to Google, which came up with the talks that TikTok has made to buy its competitor Firework in the past weeks, Facebook also implemented the Lasso application similar to TikTok in 2018. In the meantime, Snap is one of TikTok's competitors, reaching the young audience in the USA and becoming a star of social networks for a while.
